Robert Wilkins

I was originally made redundant from Dunlop Tyres where I had worked for 10 years. I happened to see an open day for Warner Village cinemas (now Vue) which sounded like a fantastic opportunity and went along. I was offered the position as Maintenance Assistant at Star City which I gratefully accepted. At first I have to admit, I took the position until I got a "proper job" back in Engineering. However I soon realised that I could see another career path as a Cinema Manager and I have now been working for the company for over 14 years.

Every day has the potential to be different, which makes the job so interesting. Every day however does have structured tasks that need to be completed.  This ranges from cash management to stock control, Health & Safety checks, supporting and training my team, providing great customer care and service and most importantly, the presentation of films.

In General Managers we look for dedicated, honest, reliable people who must be able to support, motivate and drive their team while delivering on improving business objectives and targets. I feel a GM must also be welcoming and approachable to both staff and customers.

I enjoy working at Vue because of the people and friends that I have met and worked with and I feel this is what makes the job.  As well as this, Vue is a great company that looks to develop and support its people. Each cinema is its own small community within a larger family and the team members at Vue are friendly, outgoing, honest, hardworking and reliable.
