Overall Purpose

Our area managers are responsible for managing multi-site cinemas and their teams and aim to consistently be the top choice for local big screen entertainment. Through the development and coaching of teams, our area managers drive the business objectives and targets to maximise profit growth, ensure our teams always deliver exceptional customer service and adhere to our operational standards, whilst influencing key stakeholders within the business to provide the support and solutions for the individual needs of each cinema.

Key Accountabilities

Developing your business

  • Deliver on objectives and targets through interpreting and implementing the business’ strategic goals and the operations strategy
  • Define and recommend solutions to increase profitability of individual cinemas and influence support from key stakeholders, taking joint responsibility for driving change with the operations director
  • Build and maintain effective cross functional working relationships to gain full buy-in and engagement in supporting the successful implementation of business initiatives across the area
  • Research and understand the competition across local markets to ensure that individual cinema business plans react to any opportunities and challenges to improve market share
  • Ensure all cinemas are exceeding targets, by reviewing and supporting the delivery of each cinema’s KPI measures, profit and loss, making recommendations to key stakeholders for discussion
  • Ensure the effective execution of all local and national marketing, film and retail promotions or campaigns
  • Ensure all controllable costs are managed and drive efficiency in the area
  • Seek opportunities across the area to align efficiencies

People management and development

  • Inspire cinema teams to deliver outstanding service to customers, leading by example and recognising success and high achievers
  • Ensure general managers are leading their teams to create a high performing cinema that delivers on business objectives
  • Recruit high calibre talent and develop cinema management to understand and own the recruitment processes and expectations
  • Set expectations on regular training and upskilling of all cinema team members to empower individuals to be successful in their role
  • Be flexible in management style to meet the capability of the individual and the demands of the task and priorities at hand
  • Use engaging communication methods and styles in team meetings and ensure there is clear communication across all business functions to the general managers and rest of the cinema teams
  • Manage performance through on the spot training, coaching, and writing performance agreements that focus on individual development needs and operational goals
  • Develop and implement succession plans that eliminate risk to critical sites and provide continuity in business performance when vacancies arise
  • Create a culture within the area that encourages the sharing of best practice, knowledge and is supportive of achieving overall business goals
  • Manage the area in a way that is aligned to our brand, culture and values and act as a role model for leadership, management style and behaviours

Flawless Execution

  • Ensure consistent delivery of operational standards in order to create the best environment for both customers and team members
  • Ensure that all centrally driven initiatives are implemented in each cinema with clarity on the purpose and that projects deliver return of investments
  • Ensure effective planning and use of all resources (e.g., people, tills, ticket machines, IT systems etc) in all cinemas at all to deliver the operations strategy
  • Ensure cinemas comply with all health & safety, fire and food hygiene regulations
  • Ensure cinemas comply with all legal and other company requirements

The Person

Technical Knowledge & Experience

  • Proven commercial management experience as an experienced senior leader in a multi-site customer facing business, preferably within retail, hospitality or leisure
  • Experience implementing area-wide action plans to deliver business goals with exceptional planning and organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience managing and positively impacting on profit & loss and area business targets
  • Proven ability to influence others and work across all areas of the business to deliver recommendations and solutions that will increase profitability at multi-site locations
  • Has experience in successfully managing teams remotely, fully engaging individuals and teams delivering on our targets and goals. Experience of both direct and indirect reporting lines.
  • Experience in managing and coaching individuals to own the full employee lifestyle within their cinema and support driving wider recruitment and employee strategies
  • Experience in building partnerships with head office functions and senior managers in order to deliver on centrally driven initiatives

 Skills

  • Strong commercial skills and business acumen
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret information and make sound, logical business decisions
  • Able to use Excel to establish recommendations and support findings
  • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to adapt their management style and approach
  • Knowledge of legal statutory compliance around such areas as food & beverage, fire, and Health & Safety
  • Intermediate level in: Excel, Word, PowerPoint
  • A full UK driving license is needed

Location Description

This is a field based role in London and the working hours are 40 hours per week. You will agree a base location with your line manager as well as the one day of the week where you may work from home (dependent upon role priorities and trade patterns). You may also be required to spend some of your time at our head office London.
