ACT 1 – THE ROLE

We have a rare opportunity for an experienced Area Manager to join the team here at Vue. Reporting into the Head of Operations the Area Manager will be responsible for our high profile Central London patch. This patch includes our prestigious West-End cinema in the heart of Leicester Square. This site is home to events, festivals and premiers. 

As well as developing and delivering a business plan for the area, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to work closely with the Head of Ops and the Ops Director on internal projects including new innovation and driving efficiencies, making this a truly unique and exciting role. 

Main Responsibilities include:

  • Deliver business success through interpreting and implementing the business’ strategic goals and Operations Strategy
  • Define and recommend solutions to increase profitability of individual cinemas and influence key stakeholders, taking joint responsibility for driving change with the Head of Operations and Operations Director
  • Understand the local competition and markets in order to ensure that individual cinema business plans react to opportunities and threats and continues to develop and improve market share
  • Ensure all cinemas meet their profit targets, by reviewing and supporting the delivery of each  cinema P+L, making recommendations to key stakeholders for discussion
  • Ensure the effective execution of all local and national marketing, film and retail promotions/campaigns in order to deliver incremental profit
  • Inspire cinema teams to deliver outstanding service to customers, leading by example and recognising success
  • Develop and implement manpower and succession plans that eliminate risk to critical sites and provide continuity in business performance when vacancies arise
  • Create a culture within the Area that encourages sharing of best practice, knowledge and is supportive of achieving overall business goals
  • Manage the Area in a way that is aligned to the Vue brand, culture and values and act as a role model for leadership, management style and behaviours
  • Ensure all controllable costs are managed and drive efficiency on the Area
  • Seek opportunities across the area where synergies and efficiencies can be optimised
  • Ensure consistent delivery of operational standards in order to create the best environment for both customers and team members

ACT 2 – WHAT SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE YOU’LL NEED

  • Significant proven commercial management experience as a Area Manager operating a customer facing business unit, within retailing, restaurant, pubs/bars, hospitality or leisure (ideally within the Central London area)
  • Experience of devising and implementing area action plans to deliver business goals
  • Proven success in managing and positively impacting on P&L’s and area business targets
  • Previously managed remote teams of people; fully engaging individuals and teams in plans and actions required (experience of both direct and indirect reporting lines into self where individuals are based at different locations)
  • Worked closely with head office functions and senior managers in order to deliver centrally driven initiatives
  • Implemented a business change programme and worked as part of a wider Senior Management Team to deliver business benefits and engage teams
  • Relevant knowledge of legal statutory compliance around such areas as food fire and Health & Safety
  • Familiar with and intermediate/expert user of IT business operating systems within a similar or comparable environment e.g. VISTA
  • Experience of multi site evaluation
  • A good sense of humour!
